Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield threw a bullpen session Friday and, barring a setback, should pitch Monday in Kansas City. Wakefield said he threw 40 pitches, and was asked if his start was assured. "In my mind, yes," he said. Manager Terry Francona said Wakefield will have tests run Saturday to make sure he hasn't lost any strength in his legs and that there were no further setbacks. If Wakefield passes all the tests, then he'll be in line for the start. "I think we feel Wake is going to be OK," Francona said. "Or we wouldn't really have done this."

Holy crap! Clay Buccholz's fiancee is hot!

19

I am upset for two reasons: a) I did not know Clay Buchholz's fiancee was hot! b) I did not know she is a "Deal or No Deal" girl! But besides that, here are some photos of her. Since there are no photo captions, I had to Google which one was which in the photos, because they're are two hot chicks that are DoND girls. The blonde is Buchh's fiancee -- the brunette, hopefully, is single. Enjoy. (PS: My favorite photo is the 7th from last one, where the brunette poses with five dudes. I love this shot. All these guys are like, "hey, we're with a hot chick. Take a photo, dude! Capture this moment!" Sad, but she is still hot. Oh -- and good job, Buchh. You da' man!

Youkilis hoped he would be able to play tonight, but he could not. The Sox have begun to pull away in the American League wild card race, but the team’s relative comfort in the standings did not affect his availability. "I want to play everyday," Youkilis said. "I just can’t play. It’s upsetting to me. We’re very fortunate. There’s not one player on this team, if one guy is out, it doesn’t mean this team is not going to win. I’m a big believer that just one guy being out of the lineup doesn’t do anything. In order to win, there’s a lot of guys in this room that do a lot more on a daily basis. That’s one of my big philosophies. I’d like to be in the lineup and help this team. But we’ve got plenty of guys here that can help out when guys go down."

Fighting off the Rangers for a playoff berth, the Boston Red Sox are looking juiced out of desperation. Consider the evidence: Dustin Pedroia is 26 and almost bald. David Ortiz has made it a habit to slump in synch with regular synthetic drug cycles. Daniel Bard throws 99 and Johnathan Papelbon 95... did Manny Ramirez leave behind anything in his locker last year? The American League's cheatingest team of sleaze and Ben Affleck's lustful affection could not find a way to poison the food of any Angels players, nor transmit pink-eye virus to the middle of the Halo lineup. Perhaps owner John Henry is busy finding a way of profiting off of Swine Flu worry about baseball clubs with character and strong moral fiber playing in front of the assorted local diploma mill "graduates" and grotesque obesities in the stands.

This is coming from Billy Wagner(notes), who was a teammate of Johan Santana(notes) and has seen plenty of CC Sabathia(notes). Jon Lester(notes) of the Boston Red Sox, Wagner said, "is probably the best lefty in baseball right now as far as stuff. Santana, nothing against him, but I never saw him throwing in the upper 90s and spotting it, throwing breaking balls and changeups and spotting it. "There is nobody in the two leagues that I’ve seen that can match [Lester’s] stuff. About the only other guy, and he’s a right-hander, is Josh Johnson(notes) with the Marlins."

Theo's Offer For Doc Halladay

Courtesy the Daily Dish, what the Red Sox offered for Roy Halladay. That's, um, a pretty juicy offer. You have to wonder what JP Riccardi was expecting when he wanted to be "wowed". EDIT:Whoops. Nevermind.

Brad Penny is a Monster

Hey. Do you all remember that guy named "Brad Penny"? Yeah, he was horrible for the Sox. Liked to give up big hits and didn't really like to earn outs. Well, yeah, that guy loves the National League. He's the man. There are rumors floating down from SanFran that he's a Cy Young candidate...
