You think we have it bad? We’re not even the worst Sox in the grand scheme of things. The Chicago White Sox are having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad time. 15-47 entering this one, on a 13 game losing streak, I don’t think it could get any worse. If the Boston Red Sox are going to do anything this season, these are teams they can’t ignore and play down to their level. They’re going to need to go in and show off. Well, Thursday was certainly the latter.
Key Moments
T1: Duran’s Leadoff Dinger
T2: RBIs for Rafaela
T4: Enmanuel is HOT!
T7: JAMIE!
Need I really show you all the highlights or give much explanation, but a 14-2 final score pretty much says it all.
All Studs
So this is normally where we’d do three studs and three duds of the game, but I can’t pick any weak spot from anybody in this one. Duran set the tone from the get-go and had four hits, so did Ceddanne Rafaela with four hits and four RBIs, Jamie Westbrook with his first career dinger, everyone in the lineup had at least one hit in an absolutely dominant and comical effort tonight. Oh, and Tanner Houck did this and continues to put on a career season. Let’s give how good he is even more context:
Tanner Houck (2024) and Zack Greinke (2009) are the only pitchers in the last 100 years to record all of the following in their first 13 starts of a season:
— J.P. Long (@SoxNotes) June 7, 2024
- Sub-2.00 ERA
- 2 HR or fewer allowed
- K-to-BB ratio of at least 5-to-1
(Greinke won the AL Cy Young Award in 2009.)
Play of the Game
How can you not be romantic about Jamie Westbrook here? Just listen to him talk about his journey and then think about what he did tonight.
