Well thanks for getting us excited, Marino! We got some bad news about the Yoshinobu Yamamoto sweepstakes last night, as it was reported that, despite flying to New York to visit with the Yankees and Mets, the Japanese ace did not actually visit Boston. Does this mean the Sox are officially out of it? Not necessarily — it could mean nothing more than that Monday’s storm screwed up his travel plans and he doesn’t have a flexible schedule. But things aren’t looking good. (Alex Speier, Boston Globe)

The front office apparently doesn’t think it’s out of the race, though, or, at least, they’re not publicly saying so. Team sources believe they are still very much in the mix. (Chad Jennings and Jen McCaffrey, The Athletic)

Meanwhile, Tyler O’Neill is starting to introduce himself to Red Sox fans. In a recent radio appearance, he discussed revamping his offseason training program in an attempt to avoid the injury issues that have plagued him in recent seasons. (Ryan Gilbert, WEEI)

Tyler O’Neill could definitely have a nice bounce back season for the Sox this year, but if all goes according to plan, he may just be keeping a seat warm for Roman Anthony, who has a similar approach at the plate as Triston Casas, but with arguably better tools. (Christopher Smith, MassLive)

Of course, it’s important to remember that prospects can always bust. That’s what happened to Jeter Downs, who know finds himself with the Yankees. We’re never going to stop talking about the Mookie Betts trade, folks. Never. (Sean McAdam, MassLive)
