We’re still not sure why it took so long, but the Andrew Bailey hiring was finally made official. The new Red Sox pitching coach spoke to the media via Zoom and talked a little about his philosophy (throw strikes), his friendship with CBO Craig Breslow, and why he chose Boston over a number of other opportunities. (Julian McWilliams, Boston Globe)

Will Andrew Bailey get a chance to work with Yoshinobu Yamamoto? We can only hope. While we wait for further news on his posting, here’s a scouting report from a source who’s seen a lot of him in Japan in recent years. What seems most exciting about him is his extensive pitch mix. Moving to the other side of the ball, the Red Sox find themselves in need of a second baseman. We now have reports that there have been discussions with the Cincinnati Reds about Jonathan India. India was the Rookie of the Year just two years ago, but his production has since dropped a little bit, and with the emergence of other young infielders like Elly da la Cruz, some consider India expendable. In the same piece, there are also further reports about talks with the Yankees for Gleyber Torres. (Jim Bowden, The Athletic)

Can Jonathan India box? Because recently drafted infield prospect Antonio Anderson can. (Chris Cotillo, MassLive)
