It’s starting to feel like we may get some resolution about the Red Sox GM/CBO/POBP search very soon, if for no other reason than the fact that there aren’t many candidates left out there who haven’t either already interviewed or declined to be interviewed. With respect to the former, let’s welcome. . . Gabe Kapler into the conversation? The former Red Sox outfielder and minor league coach is well respected around the game for his intelligence, but this seems like an odd fit given his lack of front office experience. (Chris Cotillo, MassLive) As for the latter, as you probably already heard, Kim Ng has declined to interview and likely will be taking the year off. (Alex Speier, Boston Globe)
Just as one former Sox player may come back, could we see another walk out the door? The Giants are officially interviewing Jason Varitek for their opening at the manager position, which was once held by Gabe Kepler. (Alex Speier, Boston Globe)
Returning to the field, what can we expect from Rafael Devers next season? While he was unquestionably the Sox best offensive player, the All-Star views 2023 as merely “average” and hopes to play much better next year. (Peter Abraham, Boston Globe)
