Thursday was a very good day for the Red Sox, and not only because they were able to salvage a split in a big series against the Rays. They also got through the day without a positive COVID test, which is saying something for them these days. (Julian McWilliams; Boston Globe)

The last few days have been a mess in that respect, though. Some teams have had games canceled this year, so why didn’t the Red Sox? (Chad Jennings; The Athletic)

Despite all of these issues, the win on Thursday still somehow ensured they would make it through this COVID-ravaged road trip with a winning record. (Steve Hewitt; Boston Herald)

It’s great to have Chris Sale back on the mound, of course, but for some in the press room, it’s refreshing to have him back at the podium as well. (John Tomase; NBC Sports Boston)

Garrett Whitlock has been great all year, and he’s focused on continuing that rather than any potential Rookie of the Year talk. (Ian Browne; RedSox.com)

Another Garrett, this one Richards, has been thriving since hitting the bullpen. (Lauren Campbell; NESN)

Boston added a little bit of infield depth on Thursday, claiming Taylor Motter off waivers. (Christopher Smith; Masslive)
