We are back for Episode 25 of the Red Sox On Deck Podcast, your go-to source for everything prospects on the Over the Monster Podcast Network. Shelly and Bob opened this episode listing all of the transactions from the last 10 days, in a stretch unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Add September 1 roster expansions to the mix, and there were a lot of names to talk about. Reynal Espinal and Jack Lopez made their major league debuts, as well as Brad Peacock and Stephen Gonsalves making their unceremonious Red Sox debuts.
Jarren Duran was demoted the previous week and we had yet to be able to talk about it. Despite his call-up due to COVID desperation, we discussed the biggest factors in his demotion and if it affects our thoughts on Duran long term.
It is certainly promotion season, as Jay Groome has been sent to Double-A Portland, Wilkelman Gonzalez to Low A Salem, and a better late than never discussion of Stephen Scott’s hot start since his promotion to High-A Greenville. Connor Seabold threw seven one-hit innings last week, and we assume that we’ll see him as part of the revolving door transaction log, after he has four days rest from his most recent outing. Marcelo Mayer hit his first two HRs of the season in back-to-back games in the Complex League last week.
We spent some time revisiting the 2020 Draft, where Nick Yorke, Blaze Jordan, Jeremy Wu-Yelland, and Shane Drohan were the four selections. Yorke and Jordan were recently promoted and have continued to hit well. Lastly, we discussed what we are most interested in seeing over the final month of the season. Gilberto Jimenez and Jay Groome discussions are had.
