Welcome back to another episode of the Red Sox Pre-Cap Podcast, your spot to hear a recap of the latest series on the docket for the Red Sox as well as a preview of what’s coming down the pipeline. Today, we talk about Boston’s latest series against the Detroit Tigers, and then look ahead to the series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
After being swept by the Tampa Bay Rays, things were looking a bit easier has the team headed up north to Detroit.
Things were not easier.
Garrett Richards struggled, yet again, and we are left wondering how much longer he will be in the rotation. Richards went four innings and gave up three earned runs to go along with his five strikeouts. The bullpen pretty much kept things in check, but the offense must have missed the plane. They left nine men on base and went just 1-5 with runners in scoring position. The first game went to the Tigers.
The second game was a more enjoyable watch. Eduardo Rodriguez was really utilizing that high fastball and racked up ten strikeouts in his five innings of work. If we get this version of Rodriguez going forward, things are looking up! The offense got it going a bit and we saw Jarren Duran, Enrique Hernandez, and J.D. Martinez all go yard, taking the game 4-1 and evening up the series.
Yeah...do we need to discuss the final game? Martín Pérez didn’t make it out of the second inning. Phillips Valdez bailed out Pérez, only to be done in by Hansel Robles. The offense left 11 men on base and only went 1-9 with RISP.
Not great Bob.
Hopefully this is a wake up call to the team, We have a four game stint against the Blue Jays and we need to be on our game right now. Chris Sale and Connor Seabold will be welcomed additions in the next couple of weeks.
