Worcester PPD
Portland SUSP
Greenville W 6-0 (F/7)
Christian Koss, SS: 2-4, 2 R, 1 K, 2 SB
Stephen Scott, 1B: 1-4, 1 R
Joe Davis, DH: 2-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 K
Brandon Howlett, 3B: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI
Jaxx Groshans, C: 2-3, 2 2B, 2 RBI
Dylan Spacke (SP): 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K (58 pitches)
Casey Cobb (W): 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K (54 pitches)
This Greenville offense was impossibly hot for a little bit earlier in the summer, but it’s been a little less potent of late, so this kind of performance was nice to see. Koss, even after today, only has a .274 OBP in August, down about 140 points from July. Similarly, Howlett has been struggling to hit for power all month — he had only two more this whole month prior to the game — while Groshans has really struggled to get on base since being promoted to Greenville back in early July. All three can really affect the way they’re thought of in this system as they finish out the last few weeks of this season.
Salem W 11-3

Gilberto Jimenez, RF: 2-5, 1 2B, 2 R, 1 K

Ceddanne Rafaela, SS: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
Blaze Jordan, 1B: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 R, 4 RBI, 1 K
Nick Decker, LF: 2-5, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 K
Alex Erro, C: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 3 R, 2 K
Antoni Flores, 3B: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 E
Chih-Jung Liu (SP; W): 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 5 K (55 pitches)
Wyatt Olds (H): 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K (23 pitches)
There’s a lot of things from this game we should hit quickly, starting at the top. Yorke just continues to rake, bringing his OBP on the season up to .413. Remember, he doesn’t turn 20 until after Opening Day next season. Further down the lineup, Jordan, another recent high school draftee, hit another home run, this one a grand slam. Decker has been a bit hot and cold this year, but ultimately he’s been patient enough and hitting for enough power to put together a solid line. On the mound, Liu now has 20 strikeouts and three walks over 15 innings this month to go with a 1.80 ERA. And finally, Olds, a seventh around pick from this draft, made his Salem debut and just his second pro appearance. The stuff was clearly there, but he did hit two batters in addition to the walk.
