Welcome back to another episode of “The Red Seat” podcast. On today’s episode Bob Osgood joins me on a Red Sox off day to discuss the upcoming Red Sox/Yankees series in the Bronx as well as the newly minted top ten Red Sox farm system per Baseball America.
You may know Bob from the “Red Sox on Deck” prospect podcast, this makes him the perfect guest for this episode.
We begin by discussing a very important, upcoming, three game set against the Yankees that opens with a double header on Tuesday. On paper the Red Sox seem to have the advantage with the way the starting pitching lines up and it seems that the Yankees will likely be without Anthony Rizzo in the lineup for at least the first two games. In addition to this the Yankees closer situation is in disarray—time to take advantage.
Travis Shaw is back in town. Cue the Obi-Wan Kenobi GIF “Now that’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time.” What do we make of his arrival? How do we see his fit with the team and his playing time situation? Is there anything left there?
We then discuss Chris Sale and how he looked vs Baltimore along with the team’s decision to not pitch him vs Toronto, Tampa Bay, and New York. Finally we look at the bullpen and try and construct what our optimal playoff bullpen might look like.
Lastly, we answered a bunch of your listener questions before ending the show.
