Welcome back to another episode of The Over the Monster Podcast, your spot every week to hear the latest with everything going on in the world of Red Sox baseball. As always, it is Matt and Bryan, and this week we cover what is a big week coming up for the Red Sox with the All-Star break quickly approaching.
The beginning of the show focuses on the game itself, and more specifically on the Red Sox players participating. We discuss which selections, if any, surprised us, and whether or not all five players who will be representing the Sox are deserving. We also look at some players on the team who did not make the roster and see if anyone else had an argument to be on the team. From there, we move the discussion to the merits of a player, and specifically pitchers, participating in the actual game.
From there, we move on to the other big thing coming up this week with the draft. The Red Sox pick fourth overall, and we spend some time looking at players like Jack Leiter, Marcelo Mayer and Henry Davis. We also discuss the merits of going underslot with their top pick, as well as the team’s history developing pitchers and how that may or may not affect a potential selection of Leiter.
Finally, we close out with a few random topics, including a new timeline for Jarren Duran, the Futures Games participants, and where we’re at with Garrett Richards. From there, we answer some listener questions, including one that leads to a disagreement around minor-league team names, before we sign off.
