The Red Sox are rolling right now as they head into Los Angeles, and now they are getting reinforcements from the injured list. After missing some time following a collision with Kiké Hernández, Christian Arroyo is ready to come back from a knee injury that landed him on the injured list just a couple of days ago. He’s back with the team tonight and in the starting lineup. Michael Chavis was optioned back down to Worcester to make room.

Arroyo brings back more infield depth for the Red Sox as they are still struggling to find the right, consistent group at the bottom of the lineup. The second baseman has been to the plate 138 times this year, hitting .264/.324/.432 for a 105 wRC+. Prior to hitting the injured list, he was on a run of clutch hits. The Red Sox would not mind that coming back with his return.
Meanwhile, Chavis is still trying to find his stride at the plate, but the plate appearances just aren’t going to be here in Boston for that to happen. In 61 plate appearances across multiple stints in the majors, he has a 45 wRC+. The righty has been swinging a good bat at Triple-A, however, particularly in the weeks prior to this latest call-up, so consistent at bats could bring back some of his value. Whether that is with the Red Sox or with another club at the trade deadline, that remains to be seen.
