I'm an author writing a series of mysteries in which the main detective character is a Red Sox fan. I try to work in a story regarding a legendary player from Red Sox history into each book (for example, Bill Buckner's 10th-inning error in the 1986 World Series, or Jimmy Piersall's struggle with his bipolar disorder) and tie it in with something one of the characters is going through.
Not being a diehard Red Sox fan myself, though, I need to depend on research, which is the reason for this post. Are there any long-time Sox fans out there who can give me some good examples to work with? (Stories that might have a moral or point to them that can apply elsewhere.)
