FanPost Friday: Looking ahead to the deadline

What should be the plan?

The second half was supposed to have been underway as of this publishing Friday morning, but COVID issues in the Yankees clubhouse postponed Thursday’s game. So, hopefully the second half will be underway on Friday. More importantly, the All-Star break and draft are both behind us, putting all of the focus on July 31. That, of course, is the final day teams can make trades, and for a team in contention like the Red Sox there is a lot of focus on what they should do.

And really, Boston can go in a lot of different directions. They can look at their place atop the American League East and see it as a reason to push all-in, grabbing hold of a legitimate chance at a title run. On the other hand, they can look at a team that looks fairly well-rounded and view Tanner Houck, Jarren Duran and Chris Sale as their trade deadline acquisitions. And, of course, they could go somewhere in between, looking at cheap options to help their depth without making the big splash. Your task for this week’s FanPost Friday is to outline a general plan for this team as we head into the trade deadline push.
