The Sox, behind Eduardo Rodriguez, will not debut their prized prospect tonight in New York.

The Red Sox, winners of all six games against the Yankees this year, kick off the second half eight games ahead of their arch rivals—and as invited guests in their home, where the Sox will no longer debut prized prospect Jarren Duran tonight as the team looks to get back on the right foot following All-Star weekend and a COVID-related postponement in the sweltering New York heat (7:05 p.m., NESN).

If there’s one thing that’s not hot in the Tri-State area, it’s the Yankees, who don’t even throw Gerrit Cole in their first game out of the break, owing likely more to his 129-pitch outing last time out than the run of bad starts before that. Instead they’ll turn to left Jordan Montgomery, which, sure! It was supposed to be Domingo Germán, but then yesterday happened, and now it’s not. The Sox will counter with Eduardo Rodriguez, whose last month has been, in many ways, the inverse of Cole’s. That’s good for Boston, as is the looming shadow of Chris Sale as he works toward a big-league return.

Duran was set to bat seventh and play center field in yesterday’s game, with Kiké Hernández sliding over to second base, but with the lefty on the mound it’s back to normal, with Christian Arroyo at second and Hernández in center. The debut will have to wait, though he’s a pinch-run candidate, one suspects. He really is the new Ellsbury! LOL.

As for the Yankees lineup, Aaron Judge is out because of the protocols, and their last two hitters are Trey Amburgey and Tim Locastro. So I mean yeah I’ll take it. My friend Danny Mackey will be at the game tonight, so hopefully the Sox destroy the Yanks and he has a big sad. Yeah I said it, Mack. Here are the full lineups:
