The Red Sox and Phillies move one game closer to the All-Star Break this afternoon at Fenway Park, with Boston back in the win column and looking for a streak behind Martín Pérez (4:10 p.m., NESN).
Pérez has been much better than (I) expected this year, and he can push his ERA into “actually good” range with a solid outing today. Right now he’s at 3.89, which FanGraphs doesn’t quite buy into, but people want to be fooled, right? It’s also not as if he hasn’t gotten battered. He has, from time to time, though not as bad as Matt Moore, Philly’s starter, who comes in with a 5.60 ERA and rate stats to match. Free souvenir weekend may be continuing, is what I’m saying. The baseballs from home runs are the souvenirs. I know you know that, but still. Just so we’re on the same page.
