The Red Sox will attempt to win a baseball game in New York without your author in attendance tonight when the struggling Eduardo Rodriguez takes on Jameson Taillon and the Yankees in the Bronx (7:15 p.m., FOX).
Last night’s victory was convincing enough for the boo birds to emerge in the New York night — there’s no better sound — but momentum is the next day’s starting pitcher or whatever, and Rodriguez and Nathan Eovaldi are headed in distinctly separate directions. E-Rod needs to have any sort of composure tonight if the Sox are going to even up their record on the road trip. Unless Jameson Taillon, of the famous Pirates->Yankees pipeline also pitches to (poor) form and it just becomes a slugfest like we all know and love between these teams. Okay maybe just know.
Some roster shuffling has commenced from the sixth spot down: Marwin Gonzalez, off last night’s rollercoaster, is batting sixth, with Kiké Hernandez behind him in seventh. Bobby Dalbec bats ninth and plays first. For the Yankees, Chris Gettins makes his Major League Debut and starts at first base while Aaron Judge plays center (?), which, I mean if that’s happening things are bad in the Bronx so no arguing. ALSO right before this went to press J.D. Martinez was scratched, so he is no longer in the lineup. Here is who IS playing:
