Today is a big day at Fenway Park. First of all, the Yankees coming into town in a huge divisional matchup with Boston a half-game behind the Rays for first place in the AL East, with New York just three-and-a-half games back of the Sox. So the Red Sox are looking to put more of a gap there in the standings and get off on the right foot Friday night.
But it’s also a big night because it is Dustin Pedroia night. The former second baseman and heart and soul of this club, as we all know, retired earlier this season. Now, he’s coming back to the park for a night as the Red Sox honor him for the hometown fans.
And so that got us thinking about the Red Sox legend and all he did for the team. Whether it was his style of play, his unbelievable talent (which in this writer’s opinion gets lost in the narrative surrounding his work ethic) or his unstoppable quote machine abilities, everyone had a million reasons to love Pedroia. That’s what I’d like to focus on for this week’s FanPost Friday. What did you love about Pedroia? What stands out to you when you look back at his career, and what do you think you’ll remember years from now telling your grandchildren about this franchise icon? Let us know, and you could be featured on the front page.
As always, here is our handy guide to making a FanPost.
