Welcome back to another episode of the Over the Monster Podcast, where we once again are checking in with everything Red Sox from the past week. For this week’s episode, Bryan Joiner is with us once again as he returns from his vacation with the Red Sox entering a huge week on their schedule.
Before getting into the upcoming matchups however, we take a look at the injury to Kevin Plawecki. This episode was recorded prior to the announcement on who would be replacing him on the roster, but the two of us discussed the merits of both Connor Wong, who was called up, and Chris Hermann. We also wonder if there is a possibility that Wong could play well enough, and get enough time, to make the team think about moving on from Plawecki.
From there, we focus our attention on the week ahead, which features a three-game set against the Rays and a three-game set against the Yankees. We talk about where both of those teams stand right now in the playoff odds as well as our own minds, and whether the Red Sox should be countering the Wander Franco promotion with one for Jarren Duran. We finish up with identical predictions for how the week will go.
Finally, we go through a grab bag of questions, including the merits of Rafael Devers participating in the Home Run Derby, Bobby Dalbec’s big weekend, and what the hell is going on with the leadoff spot.
We hope you enjoyed today’s show. If so, please subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts, leave a rating and review, and recommend us to your friends. See you again next week!
