Welcome back to another episode of the Red Sox Pre-Cap Podcast, your spot on the Over The Monster Podcast Network to catch up on the series that was and preview the series coming up next on the schedule. In today’s show, we take a look back at the weekend series in Kansas City and preview a three-game showdown within a game of Boston in the AL East standings, Tampa Bay Rays.
The Red Sox and Royals kicked off their series at Koffman Stadium with Nick Pivetta going up against a bullpen game. Things went downhill from there. Pivetta went five innings but gave up six hits, most of those hit extremely hard. Matt Andriese followed and was also hit around, giving up another two runs. Alex Verdugo and Christian Vázquez had multi-hit outings but overall the bats were quiet.
In the second game, the offense was able to get to Brad Keller and Jackson Kowar. Good news, right? Eh...maybe? This offense should take advantage of these guys! Martín Pérez was...well...okay. He went five innings and struck out three but only gave up one earned run. Garrett Whitlock, Hirokazu Sawamura, and Brandon Workman shut the door on the Royals offense to lock down the win for the Sox. We then get to the last final game against the Royals.
Nathan Eovaldi looked brilliant in the first but things quickly went downhill after. Eovaldi only went four innings while giving up seven hits and three earned runs. With the current state of our starting pitching, seeing Eovaldi struggle against the Royals...not great Bob.
The next series will be a doozy as the Tampa Bay Rays and Red Sox face off in St. Pete. Keaton and I are worried about the starting pitching and hoping our offense can carry us. Buckle up. It is about to be a roller coaster ride.
