We are back for Episode 16 of the Red Sox On Deck Podcast, your go-to source for everything prospects on the Over the Monster Podcast Network. On this episode, Shelly and Bob opened with a plethora of News and Notes. Michael Chavis was called up early in the week, but promptly sent back to Worcester after recording for the player we talked about second, Yacksel Ríos. Brandon Howlett won the High-A East Player of the Week and has three home runs in his last seven games. After a step back in 2019, it’s good to see Howlett raking again.
Rookie Ball schedules are in place, listen to hear how many teams the Sox will have in the Gulf Coast and Dominican Summer Leagues, as well as the start date and players we are expecting to see at those locations.
We spent much of the show discussing Fangraphs scouting scale and some recent Red Sox movers on that list. Where do Triston Casas and Jarren Duran now slot in on the Future Value Scale? And now that we have over a month of batted ball data, how drastic has Duran’s swing change been for his fly ball and pull rates?
We also look back at the Vanderbilt pitchers’ performances in the Super Regionals and when you catch them in the upcoming College World Series.
Finally, we take a quick tour around the minor league system over the past week. Franchy Cordero is probably ready for a second chance. Jeter Downs showing some power. Brayan Bello held his own in his first Double-A outing. Hudson Potts is back from his oblique injury. Bob researches what a crawdad is. We finish up with some quick updates on Grant Gambrell, Chris Murphy, Jay Groome, Aldo Ramirez, and Nick Yorke.
