We are back for Episode 10 of the Red Sox On Deck Podcast, your go-to source for everything prospects on the Over the Monster Podcast Network. In this episode, Keaton DeRocher was nice enough to fill in for Shelly, which is not an easy task.
Minor League Baseball got underway on Tuesday, albeit with a couple of rainouts at the A-ball levels. Bob listed off the prospects that were assigned to the various levels. We discussed the opening day performances from Tanner Houck, Jeisson Rosario, and Triston Casas. The WooSox were shut down by Nate Pearson, and the Sea Dogs also lost handily. Greenville and Salem were rained out Tuesday, and instead opened on Wednesday.
Keaton brought up a very interesting pitching prospect outside of the top four, who we have not yet talked about on the show. Would the Sox consider still going with a pitcher if Leiter and Rocker were both off the board at pick number four?
Finally, Keaton shares his thoughts on the prospects he is most excited to see in their first competitive action in twenty months; Jarren Duran, Jeisson Rosario, Jay Groome and Matthew Lugo are all discussed. Outside of the Top 20, we discuss Nick Decker, our initial over-exuberance for Durbin Feltman, and a deep cut, 19-year-old outfielder Bryan Gonzalez. Gonzalez had nine home runs and seven stolen bases in 2019 at the age of 17 in the Dominican Summer League.
