We are back for Episode 13 of the Red Sox On Deck Podcast, your go-to source for everything prospects on the Over the Monster Podcast Network. On this episode, Shelly and Bob open by discussing Franchy Cordero’s demotion. Who might get the call? Brandon Workman? Brandon Brennan? Colton Brewer? Jarren Duran??? Probably not, as we discussed the upcoming Olympic Qualifiers which Jarren Duran (USA), Triston Casas (USA), and Jeter Downs (Colombia) are heading to for a couple of weeks.
We worked our way up from A-ball to Triple-A this week. In Greenville, Cameron Cannon has continued his hot start with a grand slam on Tuesday. Tyreque Reed has hit three more home runs since we last spoke (up to eight), and Tyler Dearden’s .463 OBP and 5 HRs are also noteworthy. But no one has shined like Brayan Bello over the last week. Two more fantastic starts has Bello at 4-0 with a 2.11 ERA, with 30 K’s in 21 1⁄3 innings.
In Portland, Joey Meneses and Johan Mieses are both putting up great stats, albeit as older prospects. Mieses is leading the league with 9 HR thus far. In Worcester, a recent 5-for-5 performance from Duran sat between a bit of a slow stretch. Jeter Downs has a 38.3 percent strikeout rate through 19 games. Perhaps some time away with the Colombia team will clear his head a bit, as he has not had strikeout rate over 20 at any level until now. Kaleb Ort has five saves and nine shutout innings as the Worcester closer. With Eduard Bazardo out for a while, Ort may fill that role if he’s added to the 40-man roster.
Finally, we touch briefly on some of this week’s MLB Mock Drafts, where Henry Davis, Jack Leiter, and Kumar Rocker were each selected at four on different sites. The Davis hype is real, as he’s being rumored to go with the first pick in some circles.
