Red Sox vs. Braves lineups: Sox draw Smyly, face reality

There’s a dogfight in the AL East, and the second-place Sox look to keep pace behind Nick Pivetta.

If either of the last two episodes of the Over the Monster Podcast hadn’t been eaten by wolves, you’d already know we thought the Sox’s division lead was wobbly. Particularly, Nick Pivetta’s peripherals told a story his results didn’t and as he went, so went the Red Sox.

Well, that narrative is extremely real tonight as the Sox face the Braves behind Tricky Nick (7:10 p.m., NESN). Boston could use a win, bad, and one of the Good Results games from Pivetta would be appreciated. Last time out was an inversion of the Pivetta narrative—he pitched well and had a bad line—and I humbly suggest we re-invert that, and get back to the business of being lucky.

Perhaps because of the pressure the Sox are under, the batting order has been shuffled a bit. Not at the top; Aceves no. But Christian Vázquez has been supplanted in the sixth spot by Hunter Renfroe, and Vázqy has been dropped to eighth. Christian Arroyo gets his first start back from the IL and bats ninth, with Bobby Bombs Dalbec sliding into the seventh spot.

Marcell Ozuna is out for the Braves, but the rest is blah blah blah you get it. Here are the full lineups:
