The Red Sox again look to complete a Sunday sweep when the face the Phillies this afternoon (1:05 p.m., NESN, MLBN out-of-market) behind Eduardo Rodriguez.
E-Rod looks to atone for a rough time out in his last appearance, giving up five runs in five innings in an 8-0 loss to Hyun Jin Ryu and the Blue Jays. Notable, E-Rod will wear his “Barry Bonds earring” in a nod to his plate appearances today, which will further serve to press the case for a universal DH. Apparently the Red Sox otherwise have an anti-earring policy. Weirdos.
Zach Wheeler, who might be on the best stretch of his career, starts for the Phillies. That’s scary enough. With the DH out of play, it’s finally time for the rare J.D. Martinez off-day. It’s also time for the rare Xander Bogaerts off day. I can’t remember the last time both of them were otherwise healthy and on the bench, and it could be tough sledding for the Sox, who will probably win anyway, because suddenly they always do again. That’s nice. Also Bryce Harper is out. Happy Sunday, y’all.
