The Red Sox try to sweep the Orioles in Baltimore tonight (7:05 p.m., NESN) one day after I erroneously said they were trying to sweep a three-game series, which, to their credit, they would have.
Apologies. We all make mistakes. Well maybe not Xander Bogaerts, but the rest of us, sure. Martín Pérez has made some, certainly, so maybe tonight he pitches really well to even out these phantom kinks. I’m not quite sure where I’m going with this, but I know Pérez has made fewer mistakes than Orioles starter Jorge López, who has been brutalized this year. Instead of that evening out, I would prefer it to continue.
The lineup is back at the current definition of full strength, which means Christian Vázquez is back after yesterday’s day off and the remaining healthy starter types are starting. It’s been enough so far, and until it stops working, will be what you see going forward. I still want Jarren Duran, but am sometimes able to leave well enough alone, and this is one of them.
