So it wasn’t the opening weekend that we wanted. You may even say it wasn’t the opening weekend that this team needed after a frustrating 2019 and a very down 2020. Depending on how you feel about this team not having their “Killer B’s” outfield of Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Andrew Benintendi maybe this series was enough to turn you off of this team for the 2021 season.
I hope you’ll stick around for 2021 because Keaton and I are not ready to panic. We were recording this podcast in the middle of the Red Sox first win of the year against the American League champion Tampa Bay Rays. During that victory the Red Sox got another very solid pitching performance from their starter, this time Nick Pivetta, which makes three good stars out of the Red Sox first four games. I think it took about 40 games to get that many good starts last year.
The starting pitching on this club is much improved even with the absence of Eduardo Rodriguez and that alone should give you hope for a much better 2021. This offense will be fine especially if J.D. Martinez is back to being the player we all know he is capable of being and so far that appears to be the case.
On this episode of the show Keaton and I break down the positives and the negatives from the opening weekend series vs Baltimore and answer a whole bunch of your very panicked listener questions. Like Baymax in Big Hero 6 we are here to tell you “ It’s ok.”
