In this episode of the Pre-Cap Show, Keaton and Shelly review the opening series of the 2021 season for the Red Sox against the Orioles. Nathan Eovaldi and Tanner Houck gave the offense a fighting chance but they failed to deliver over the weekend. Should we be concerned?
Garrett Richards’s first start as a Red Sox was awful, but another Garrett filled in admirably. Will there be a Garrett for Garrett swap soon in the rotation?
Our biggest letdown was the offense, but the defense cannot be forgotten either. Rafael Devers in particular did not look sharp at third base and had a day off on Sunday, most likely to regroup from some really bad plays on Saturday.
In the second half of the pod, we try to regroup from a miserable weekend to discuss the upcoming Red Sox versus Tampa Bay Rays series. The Rays are 2-1 after facing the lethal Marlins starting pitching staff, and they look to do more damage on the Sox. While the Sox offense was asleep at the wheel this first weekend, you should expect the bats to light up, especially against Michael Wacha and others. Sure, Tyler Glasnow is a formidable foe but I believe in the pure hitters. All in all, this matchup is not the easiest to tackle, especially after dropping three games against the Orioles but we are still confident.
