Red Sox at Rangers lineup: It’s Pérez Day in the metroplex

The former Ranger is back on the mound in Texas, but it’s not the same mound.

The Red Sox head down to Texas tonight (8:05 p.m., NESN) to face the Rangers behind longtime Ranger Martín Pérez.

The Sox are riding high off a two-game sweep of the Mets during which they scored a whopping three runs, but we’ll take it! All respect due to Pérez, but this matchup—and series—point toward the run-scoring type of baseball at which the Red Sox excel, so I’d expect a return to the norm, likely starting tonight.

The Rangers lineup features Joey Gallo, Destroyer of Worlds, though he’s not destroying very much this year, and very few of the Rangers are doing so in his stead. The good news for the Red Sox, who do tend to pound the ball, is that they’re back in an A.L. park, so the DH is back in play. Pérez’s career ERA in Dallas is actually about a half run lower than his overall ERA, which would be good and useful information had the Rangers not moved into a tin barn since he left.

Nothing to report on the Sox front except Hunter Renfroe is in right field, looking for another chance to get his season going. Oh and Brock Holt is on the bench for Rangers. /o\
