The Red Sox Pre-Cap Podcast: Recapping the Mets, Previewing the Rangers

MLB: Boston Red Sox at New York Mets Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome back to another episode of the Pre-Cap Podcast, where we look back at the series that was and ahead to the next series on the calendar. Today, we talk about this past weekend’s series against the Mets and ahead to the four-game set this weekend in Arlington against the Rangers.

In the first game, it was the Garrett Richards show, as he went seven innings and racked up 10 strikeouts, no walks, and an impressive 42 percent CSW (called strikes plus whiffs) rate. This is easily the best we have seen from Richards in years and it was so good to see. Matt Barnes entered in the ninth and locked down another save while racking up two strikeouts.

On Wednesday, Nick Pivetta faced off against the best pitcher in baseball, Jacob deGrom. In all honesty, most of us went into this game expecting the Red Sox to lose. I mean, they were facing Jacob deGrom but, well, this team keeps finding ways to do it. deGrom was his dominant self but Nick Pivetta went five scoreless innings and stuck out seven batters. Garrett Whitlock came in after Pivetta, went two innings and struck out another four batters. Matt Barnes entered in the ninth and did Matt Barnes-like things and struck out all three batters he faced. He and the entire bullpen is so much better than the 2020 bullpen...and I love it!

Up next for the Red Sox is a four-game series on the road against the Rangers. Don’t forget to subscribe to the Over The Monster Podcast network so you never miss an episode!
