Red Sox at Mets lineup: The gang faces Jacob deGrom

The results are not always sunny.

MLB: Washington Nationals at New York Mets
Be afraid.
Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Sox face the best pitcher in baseball, maybe the best pitcher in decades, at the absolute peak of his powers when they face down Jacob deGrom and the Mets tonight in Flushing, New York.

Look at this nonsense:

All of that is coming off this:

Tonight is number five. No pressure! What deGrom is doing is pure Pedro, only if his body was properly huge and has, stylistically, been that way for a while. Last night aside, the core of the Red Sox offense has been hard to stop, which should make for some compelling television tonight in Queens. Also, I didn’t know this until today but per an old Peter Gammons column, deGrom was very nearly sent to the Red Sox in 2011 in the deal of Kelly Shoppach, until he was swapped out at the last minute and replaced by Pedro Beato. I’d link to the tweet that alerted me to this fact but since I’m blocked by this account for hysterically petty reasons (there are a lot of us, as I understand it), I won’t. Sad, especially because now I can never find Red Sox Stats anywhere, as hard as I look.

Anyhow, Nick Pivetta starts for the Sox, and he looks to grab ride whatever spiritual wave deGrom has going to put together another workmanlike outing on the hill, where he has been... fine. He’ll be backed by virtually the same lineup as yesterday except this time Alex Verdugo is back and batting second, pushing Rafael Devers back down to fifth. Here are the full lineups:
