Red Sox vs. Blue Jays lineups: Lefties let loose

It’s Eduardo Rodriguez vs. Hyun Jin Ryu tonight in the Fens.

The Red Sox look to carry the brunch barrage over from a productive Patriots’ Day when they square off with Hyun Jin Ryu and the Blue Jays tonight at Fenway Park (7:10 p.m., NESN).

Eduardo Rodriguez makes his first start in Boston since September of 2019 in what could be an emotional return to his home mound. He’s coming off a strong start in Minnesota following a wobbly first outing and will look to match the exceptional Ryu pitch for pitch.

Not facing Ryu will be Rafael Devers, who gets the day off against the lefty, as does Alex Verdugo. This manifests itself in a batting order of Kiké Hernández first and Christian Arroyo second, typical stuff for the American League leading Sox. The Kevin Plawecki-at-DH part is less typical, but hey, when you’re hot, you’re hot.

As a penultimate quick note, we stand and empathize with Liverpool supporters against our common owner, John Henry, who is doing his best supervillain impression in the soccer world after some funny accounting with the Red Sox you might remember. You truly hate to see it, though today’s defections in the nascent European Super League do provide a small stab of hope that the yachted class won’t ultimately ruin everybody’s fun.

As a final quick note, the non-sports world is going to be pretty rocky out there tonight. Stay safe.
