We are back for Episode 7 of the Red Sox On Deck Podcast, your go-to source for everything prospects on the Over the Monster Podcast Network. On this episode, Shelly and Bob open with News and Notes and more bad news for Bryan Mata. He had Tommy John surgery this week, and our fears that inevitable was being delayed came true. He will miss the 2021 season, and likely more.

The Worcester Red Sox are airing their alternate site games, and Connor Seabold looked good in his first appearance. The independent Atlantic League is testing out a couple of rule changes, including moving the mound back one foot, as well as a Designated Hitter that must be removed with the starting pitcher. How might this affect starting pitcher strategy, and might it affect the Opener if moved up into MLB down the line?

Shelly and Bob then spent the majority of the show taking an initial look at the July MLB Draft. The Red Sox have the 4th pick and there are four players that seem to stand out above the rest. We chronicled Vanderbilt’s duo of electric right-handed pitchers Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker, followed by prep shortstops Jordan Lawler and Marcelo Mayer. Some other interesting players include: Henry Davis (catcher), Sal Frelick (outfielder), Gunnar Hoglund (pitcher), Brady House (third baseman), and the unfortunate news that LSU pitcher Jaden Hill will no longer be a top-10 pick due to Tommy John Surgery.
