The Red Sox Pre-Cap Podcast: Previewing the Orioles and the season

A look ahead to the first three games of the season, and the season as a whole.

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Minnesota Twins Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

In this episode of the Pre-Cap Show, Keaton and Shelly preview the opening series of 2021 for the Red Sox in which they take on the Orioles. Both Nate Eovaldi (who starts on Thursday) and Garrett Richards (getting Sunday’s start) are looking to kick the season off on a good foot after some up and down spring performances. The good news: There is probably no better opponent for just that task than these Baltimore Orioles. After finishing just one game ahead of the Red Sox in 2020, the Orioles had a quiet offseason and again project to be the bottom feeder of the American League East.

Although there has been no official starter announced for the second game, Tanner Houck will likely gets the ball for that Saturday start. After an up-and-down spring of his own that featured a couple starts with walks galore, Houck is looking to ride his success in his last start into the regular season. The Red Sox should again be one of the top offenses in not only the American League but all of baseball, and the combination of weak pitching and weak offense of the Orioles should allow the team to get going in the right direction. Both Keaton and Shelly predict two out of three for Boston.

In the second half of this pod, Keaton and Shelly project some superlatives for the 2021 season. Don't forget to subscribe to the Over The Monster podcast network so you never miss an episode!
