Thursday marked the first official workout for the Red Sox this spring, but of course Chris Sale did not participate as he continues his rehab from Tommy John. In fact, he was placed on the 60-day injured list. So when can we expect the ace’s return? (John Tomase; NBC Sports Boston)

Well, Sale will not have a ton of say in the answer to that question, as the team is understandably going to take control of the process. (Pete Abraham; Boston Globe)

In more positive starter news for Boston, Eduardo Rodriguez does indeed look to be a full go as camp gets started. (Steve Hewitt; Boston Herald)

Alex Cora spoke with the media on Thursday and indicated that the team will have defined roles in the bullpen this year. Who serves as the closer, however, is still unclear. (Chris Cotillo; Masslive)

Hirokazu Sawamura could be a darkhorse for that role, and he was partially drawn to Boston by a former Red Sox closer. (Sean McAdam; Boston Sports Journal)

Mitch Moreland will not be coming to Boston. (Alex Hall; Athletics Nation)
