Welcome to the 2021 Over the Monster Community Awards. I will be your host this year. This post will serve as both the rules post and the nominations post.
So let's get into how this will work.
Today opens the nomination period. Nominations will go until Monday, December 13 at 9AM Eastern time (Or whenever I roll my grumpy butt out of bed that day, so you might end up with a little extra time!) Once I close nominations and put the first voting posts, I won't accept any more nominations.
To nominate someone: Go to the Nominations threat in the comments below. As an example, it will say:
NOMINATE SOMEONE FOR COMMENTER OF THE YEAR AWARD HERE
and click the reply button. Put that person's name in comment as a reply to that comment. Only direct replies to that comment will be considered nominations. Please remember. I am legally blind, and if you make me hunt for a nomination, I'm just not going to take it! :P
Any direct replies to the Nomination Thread for an award (Unless the person nominated replies to the nomination requesting to be removed from contention) will be added to the ballot. Nominations do not have to be seconded, but hte person being nominated CAN decline the nomination.
You can't nominate yourself.
Staff writers are not eligible, however, as in the past, moderators are since they're normal members of the community that just have the power to kick out the porn flinging troublemakers that show up from time to time with the staff isn't around.
Each award will get a post. In the comments for each post, each person nominated will have a comment. It will look like:
VOTE FOR RICK BENTSEN HERE
(You won't see that exact comment as I will be declining any nominations for the record)
Simply hit "rec" on the person (or persons if you want to vote for more than one. I won't judge!) you want to vote for.
Person with the highest number of recs? That's your award winner.
Voting will run for one week and end at 9AM Eastern time (or whenever I get up) one week following the post going up.
Winners will be announced in a post the Monday after Christmas.
There are 7 awards this year. Here they are along with what day voting will begin for each:
Monday, December 13:
Fanposter of the Year (Who do you think wrote the best fanposts this year?)
Commenter of the Year (Who had the best comments, either baseball related or not?)
Tuesday, December 14:
Comeback Player of the Year (Who was the best community member to come back after being away for a while?)
Most Missed Poster (Which poster do you miss the most? Either they weren't here at all this season, or they left partway through.)
Wednesday, December 15:
Most Knowledgeable Poster (Who has exhibited the best baseball knowledge this year?)
Thursday, December 16:
Rookie of the Year (Who was the best new addition to the community?)
Friday, December 17:
MVP (In general, who was the most valuable member of the community this year?)
As you will notice, we do not have the "Most Cheerful" or "Most Persnickety" categories this year. I felt that, since this is supposed to be a celebration of community, it might be best to avoid that particular divide this year. It certainly seems like it has been the worst it has been in quite some time. We're supposed to be a family, even if we're a rather dysfunctional one at times! :)
So there you have it. Have fun nominating folks and I will see you for the voting next week.
Good luck to all!
NOMINATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED! THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR NOMINATIONS! THE RESPONSE HAS BEEN BETTER THAN I HAD HOPED!
