Red Sox Minor Lines: Daniel Gossett just misses a no-no

And the DSL season ends.

Worcester W 9-1

Jarren Duran, CF: 0-4, 2 K

Danny Santana, 1B: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 2 K

Triston Casas, DH: 0-3, 2 BB, 1 R

Franchy Cordero, LF: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI

Yairo Muñoz, 3B: 0-4, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 L

Ronaldo Hernández, C: 1-5, 1 2B, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K

Jonathan Araúz, SS: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 RBI, 1 K

Daniel Gossett (SP; W): 8.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K (103 pitches)

What a way to end the season for Gossett. He is not someone we have talked much at all about this year, as he’s a veteran player who was brought in to provide some early rotation security, which wasn’t ever needed. So he just settled in as a full-time Triple-A pitcher, and was mostly average. But in this one, he was great. In fact, Gossett brought a no-hitter into the ninth before Nick Maton singled on what appears to have been just a little tapper to the left side. That was the only hit he’d allow, and after getting an out he was lifted. It was also a big penultimate game for Cordero, whose season with dominant Triple-A numbers and unplayable major-league numbers make him a really confusing player to evaluate for 2022.

DSL Red L 2-13 (F/7)

Luis Ravelo, 2B: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 E

Miguel Bleis, CF: 1-3

Michael Valera (SP; L): 1 IP, 3 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

DSL Blue W 13-2 (F/7)

Alixandri Alvarez, 2B: 1-3, 1 BB, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 E

Alex Zapete, 1B: 1-2, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI

Alexis Hernandez, LF/RF: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB

Diego Rodriguez, DH: 0-0, 2 BB, 2 R, 3 SB

Jean Carlos Reyes (SP): 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

And this marks the end of the DSL season, with the two Red Sox affiliates playing each other. This was no contest, with the Blue squad not only scoring 13 runs in seven innings, which would be plenty impressive on its own, but they also did so without an extra-base hit, which seems impossible. Blue also ends the season having dominated their fellow Red Sox prospects, going 9-3 against the Red Sox squad this year. We’ll recap the season that was at the DSL at some point soon, though no firm plans are in place for when given we have no idea what’s going on with the big-league squad just yet.
