Can the new Red Sox utility man stick with the team beyond 2020?

Welcome back to another edition of the Red Seat Podcast. On this episode we are focusing on a new member of the Red Sox: Yairo Muñoz.

The versatile new utility man has been drawing regular starts in both left field and right field over the past week and has impressed with his bat. It’s a small sample size with just 21 plate appearances on the year but been so hot he’s amassed ten hits!

During his time with the Cardinals, Muñoz played every position on the field except for catcher and first base. If that sounds like anyone familiar it should, because it’s a skill reminiscent of Brock Holt. They are actually pretty similar with the bat too, although Muñoz probably has a little bit more power. Nonetheless, his development at just 25 years old could be a real positive for this club heading into 2021.

Keaton and I spend some time discussing the success of Martín Peréz, one of the few players I can take a victory lap on this season. Will he continue to be a key piece in this rotation next year?

We also spend time discussing Jackie Bradley Jr.’s hot streak, Bobby Dalbec’s power, Michael Chavis’s struggles and many more things.
