The last-place Red Sox face off with the fourth-place Orioles tonight at 7:30 at Fenway Park as the season oozes toward the finish.
Nick Pivetta, finally with the big league club after they squeezed another year out of him, will make his Red Sox debut. Keegan Akin, who is also a pitcher, starts for the Orioles.
The Sox are three games back of the O’s, which means they could catch them with a few wins, but it’s not like anyone wants that. Certainly not the Orioles, who probably want no part of the cellar for once!
At least the Red Sox’s lineup suggests they’re still taking the year seriously: everyone notable is still playing, but we’ll see how than goes through Sunday. We might just caution that if you really love any of the top tier players you get your fill of them tonight, because these things change quickly. The end is nigh. Thank Aceves.
