Red Sox at Yankees: They’re trying to give us this one

Just... just beat them.

MLB: Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees
Friends?
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Sox look to salvage the smallest bit of dignity as they try to avoid being swept by the Yankees tonight in New York (7:05 p.m.).

It’s bad. It’s very, very bad. Not only are the Sox set to lose their eighth straight game tonight, they’re gonna probably drop their fourth straight against a team missing its best active player. Maybe its best two. It’s a such a precipitous fall it’s hard to know where it stops, but one suspects it’s not too much further now. The inevitable dead cat bounce will do nothing more than worsen Boston’s draft position, but at this point so much help is needed it’s not worth worrying about. It’s gonna be a long way back.

Tonight, though, we are still here. Martín Pérez, who looks to keep working around pedestrian peripherals en route to good results, starts for Boston while the Yankees start left-hander Jordan Montgomery. They are also starting, among others, Erik Kratz, Tyler Wade and Thairo Estrada. If the Sox can’t win tonight... it just confirms what we already know.

Anyhow:
