The Red Sox have their third matchup against their Fort Myers rivals, the Twins, on Sunday. Minnesota took each of the first two games this spring, so Boston will be looking to start making their way back towards even in this Very Important Series. This one will be able to be seen on TV, with NESN having the broadcast this afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:05 PM ET.
The Red Sox send out their number three starter in this one with Martín Pérez taking on his 2019 club. It is, of course, not the complete lineup for the traveling Twins, though there are a few regulars including Josh Donaldson right in the middle. Either way, Pérez struggled a bit his last time out, though he wasn’t hit particularly hard. He’s more susceptible to being hurt by soft contact than others, but at this point you’re just looking for progression with his command on all of his pitches and just getting the work in.
On the other side, the Red Sox have something close to their Opening Day group in terms of position players. Andrew Benintendi does have the day off so it’s not the complete group, but that’s about the only difference. J.D. Martinez will take his spot in left field while Mitch Moreland plays his second game serving as the designated hitter. The Red Sox are being sure not to rush him after a hamstring tweak last week, and will wait to put him back in the field. Kevin Pillar, meanwhile, takes the leadoff spot in Benintendi’s absence.
