Red Sox Lineups: Splittin’ the squad Part II: 2 Split 2 Squads

The Red Sox have a pair of games of Saturday

The Red Sox have two games on the docket Saturday afternoon with a little split squad action, their second time doing that this spring. There’s little that screams “Spring training!” more than split squad action. This time around, both of the games can be watched on the ol’ tee vee machine, although it’ll be a little challenging for those of us in-market to watch on one screen. The home game against the Blue Jays will be on NESNPlus while the road game against the Phillies will be on MLB.TV if you’re a subscriber. First pitch is set for 1:05 PM ET.

The two pitchers going today are interesting, although in different ways. In the matchup against the Blue Jays Nathan Eovaldi will be back on the mound. The righty is of even greater importance following the Chris Sale injury news, and the good news is he’s looked outstanding in his couple of spring starts to date. He’ll look to keep that momentum this afternoon. Traveling will be Tanner Houck, who is probably a longshot to start the year with the big-league club but should get a chance later in the year. He has also looked good, and will have a test today against a talented Phillies lineup.

On offense, the Blue Jays game features more star power. There are plenty of regulars, including Xander Bogaerts at shortstop, J.D. Martinez in right field, Rafael Devers at third and Mitch Moreland making his return after a brief absence, getting the start at DH. Tzu-Wei Lin was also supposed to return to action today but he was a late scratch and was eventually replaced by Jonathan Araúz at second base. For the Phillies game it is more prospects, including Jeter Downs and C.J. Chatham, but there are some notables with Jackie Bradley Jr. and Kevin Pillar in the outfield as well as Kevin Plawecki at DH.
