Red Sox at Rays Lineups: Eddie after dark

Or, shortly before dark.

The Red Sox have their second night game in three days as they head out to take on the Rays in Port Charlotte. This one has a 6:35 start time and NESN will have the broadcast. Taking the mound for the Red Sox will be Eduardo Rodriguez, who is looking to keep his momentum building towards a season in which he will be entrusted as the team’s de facto ace. His starting on Opening Day hasn’t yet been officially announced, but Ron Roenicke hinted at it today.

The math to which he refers is counting the starts to Opening Day, but I feel like that probably isn’t necessary either. Once it was decided that Chris Sale would miss Opening Day, that start was always going to Rodriguez. So, yeah, he’s pitching tonight.

On the other side, it’s a semi-regular kind of lineup. There are some regulars sitting out, but still some notable players here. Both Xander Bogaerts and Michael Chavis are in, and they are looking to get going. Both have been striking out a bunch, and Bogaerts is still looking to get on base for the first time this spring. Also interesting is that José Peraza is in left, his first time in the outfield this spring. That could be more to get both Chavis and Tzu-Wei Lin in the lineup along with him, but in that case someone could play DH. I think we could see Peraza used for his versatility a bit this summer.
