Red Sox vs. Yankees Lineups: Eduardo Rodriguez gets the start

The Red Sox are in action down in Fort Myers this afternoon, and we’ll be able to watch this one with our eyeballs. NESN is only doing weekend games early on this spring, and with today being Saturday that means they have it. Boston will be facing off against the Yankees, who have some split squad action going today, and first pitch is set for 1:05 PM ET.

The story for the Red Sox here is that Eduardo Rodriguez, who is now the Opening Day starter with Chris Sale’s season is being delayed a little bit, is making his first start of the spring. He had a minor setback with his knee (not the knee that has given him trouble in the past) early in camp, but he’ll take the mound today. It’s a bit of a relief, frankly, because if he missed much more time I was going to start wondering if he too would start the year on the injured list. Right now, though, by all accounts everything should be on track. After a breakout 2019 Rodriguez is a fascinating player for the 2020 season, but there’s not a ton specifically to watch for today. Basically, the goal is for him to just get his work in this spring without injury.

On the other side, the Red Sox have some interesting players hitting today. Jackie Bradley Jr. is hitting second and is in center field, and Kevin Pillar is over in right field and batting leadoff. Christian Vázquez and Mitch Moreland also are in the lineup today as projected starters this year. Further down, Jonathan Lucroy looks to continue his push for the backup catcher job as he DHs in this one while Bobby Dalbec and C.J. Chatham hit a bit further down.
