I gotta say, it feels good to be writing a lineup post again! The Red Sox take on Northeastern today for their annual spring opener, which will start at 1:05 PM ET and can be caught on NESN. Just a reminder because I know I forget this every year, it is only a seven-inning game. If you were hoping to see some of the big names on the roster, this one won’t be for you, but this is a good chance to look at some prospects as well as non-roster guys fighting for a role either to start the year or as the season goes along.
Taking the mound for the first inning at least will be the left-handed Daniel McGrath. The southpaw is not really a prospect in the strict sense of the word, but he had a big year at Double-A last season including a stretch in which he allowed just one earned run over 59 innings of work. That’s absurd. The lineup, meanwhile, will feature an interesting mix including prospects like Jarren Duran, roster hopefuls like Marco Hernández and C.J. Chatham, newcomer Connor Wong, and the uncharacterizable Rusney Castillo. The full lineup is below:
- Marco Hernández, 2B
- Jarren Duran, CF
- C.J. Chatham, SS
- Rusney Castillo, RF
- Nick Longhi, 1B
- Connor Wong, C
- John Andreoli, LF
- Chad De La Guerra, 3B
- Juan Centeno, DH
SP: Daniel McGrath, LHP
