My 2020 Hall of Fame ballot

I take the position that David Ortiz is a (first or second ballot) HOFer. By doing so, I do not think there should any argument/discussion about Bonds, Clemens and Sosa. The writers awarded them MVPs and Cy Youngs while they allegedly knew they were using steroids but now these same writers don't want to vote them in year after year based on their steroid use? All three belong based on their dominance and career numbers.

In this post I will make the case for Schilling and Helton.

Helton (Compares to HOFer Chuck Klein who played in a sandbox in Philly): Career .316 hitter;. 169th in WAR; 18th in OPS; 19th in doubles; 4 time Silver Slugger and 3 time Gold Glove winner. Rare feat in modern baseball he won both awards in same year twice. In 2000 & 2001 he became the only player ever to have back to back 100 XBH & 400 TB in same season. Others have done it once, a few have done it twice but not back to back. In one of those years he also had 200 hits.

Schilling (Compares to HOFer Don Drysdale): 216 career wins; 3.46 ERA; 3,116 SO; WAR 80.5; Career WHIP of 1.137; SO/9 8.6 was top 10 at retirement); Led each league in wins. His .597 W-L% ranks 136th. Two time TSN Pitcher of the Year in 2001 & 2002. 1993 NLCS MVP & 2001 WS MVP and Babe Ruth award winner. 11-2 all-time in post season with a 2.23 ERA and a WHIP of 0.968, arguably the best post season pitcher ever.
