The Red Seat Podcast: Checking in on the 2020-2021 Free Agents

Who will the Red Sox target this offseason?

The offseason has begun in earnest now that the World Series is over, yet the Red Sox are still searching for a manager. I really thought that by the time we recorded next we would have clarity in this area, but it appears Chaim Bloom and company are taking their time and considering all of the possibilities. I certainly can’t blame him for doing that since if he makes the wrong choice it could cost him his job.

In addition to the managerial search the Red Sox have some additional clarity on their roster for 2021 with J.D. Martinez opting in and the Red Sox opting not to pay Martín Pérez. These will be the first of many moves in an offseason that looks to be gearing up to extremely slow. The silver lining in this is that if the Red Sox are willing to spend, which I think they will be, it is most certainly a buyers market.

Shelly and I discuss some of the potential options that the Red Sox could pursue to plug the holes the team has in the field, the bullpen and the rotation. We discuss players like:

  • Marcell Ozuna
  • Marcus Semien
  • Kolten Wong
  • Kevin Gausman
  • Trevor Bauer
  • Drew Smyly
  • J.A. Happ
  • Brad Hand
  • Mitch Moreland

As well as many more. We discuss who is likely, who is unlikely, and we look at the free agent projections and predictions from MLBTradeRumors.com. We then get into listener questions.
