Welcome back for another edition of the Red Seat Podcast. In today’s episode I am joined by Shelly Verougstraete as we delve into the coming offseason for the Red Sox front office. Over this past weekend I wrote up a general to-do list with some basic tasks for Chaim Bloom and the front office heading into the winter, and this was the guideline for Shelly and I’s discussion for this pod.

We started things off where the Red Sox offseason is likely to get started: With the manager search. The discussion, naturally, starts with Alex Cora as we go over both our feelings about potentially bringing him back as well as what we think the chances are it actually happens. We also go over a few of our personal favorite choices outside of Cora.

After that, we turn our attention to the players on the roster as we look at the 40-man crunch that could be coming this winter. We look at some of the players eligible for the Rule 5 Draft this winter, including what we determine as six locks and a handful of interesting but ultimately fringy options. We also look at the players who could be on the chopping block that are already on the 40-man roster, as there will need to be changes to fit all of the Rule 5-eligible players.

Finally, we talk about the possibility of extensions for four players on the Red Sox, though the bulk of the focus is on two of them. We finish up with some listener questions.

We hope enjoyed today’s episode, and that if you did you tell your friends, subscribe, rate and review. Until next time!
