We look at what they’ll do with players already on the roster as well as new acquisitions.

Welcome back for another edition of the Red Seat Podcast. As we continue to wait for the offseason to really get into full swing, this week it is myself and Keaton with you all. Without much to discuss on the managerial front over the past week, we instead look at the players themselves, starting with the guys that are already on the roster. We look at the coming roster crunch and try to determine which players are going to be on the chopping block to make room for both the new acquisitions that will be made this winter as well as the prospects who need to be protected from the Rule 5 Draft. Most of our concentration here is on the infield with some potential non-tenders and/or DFAs among utility players. We also talk a bit about what the future holds for the Dustin Pedroia situation.

After that, we turn our attention to players not in the organization. Longtime readers will be familar with our Pick5 contest we do every year. That will be coming back this year — stay tuned for that later this week — and while the staff won’t take place in the actual competition we are still throwing some names out there. In that spirit, Keaton and I each picked five names we could potentially see the Red Sox targeting this winter, both in free agency and via trade. I won’t give too much away, but we both see the same potential landing spot in an Andrew Benintendi trade.

Speaking of Benintendi, we finish things up with some listener questions including one regarding the possibility of moving Benintendi over to center field and signing a corner outfielder, which should theoretically be easier to find than a center fielder.

We hope you enjoy the show, and if you do please rate, review, subscribe and tell your friends. Maybe even a complete stranger or two!
