The Red Sox have one major storyline for which they are playing the rest of the year, and that is Eduardo Rodriguez’ chase for 20 wins. It’s been the big story for a few weeks, now, and after grabbing the W his last time out he is two wins away from the goal with two starts to go. In other words, he has to get the win today.
The Red Sox are clearly invested in this case, and Alex Cora is going all-out to help his pitcher get there. After sending out something close to B-lineups the last couple of games, Boston is sending their A-team out on Tuesday. That means Mookie Betts is leading off and in right field, J.D. Martinez is at DH, Andrew Benintendi is back and in left field, and Christian Vázquez is behind the plate. It might seem silly to go all-out for an arbitrary milestone for one of the more antiquated stats in baseball, but I love this. We’ve heard many times how important this is to Rodriguez and how he set out this goal for himself in spring training. It’s awesome to see his team and manager behind him in this.
The full lineups are below.
